An Open Call to Artists

(Region 7 and LSU Faculty and Students Associated with LSU)

In association with the LSU Health Center for Medical Education, the Shreveport Regional Arts Council announces a Call to Artists for artwork to be purchased for the newly completed LSU Medical School in Shreveport, LA.

GOAL: Together we are issuing an Open Artist Call to the artists of NWLA and LSU students & staff to help offer a variety of local artwork to hang in the new facility.

These pieces will be purchased and officially go on display at the LSU Health Center for Medical Education in addition to other acquisitions and commissioned artworks. This Collection will be considered a long-term, permanent installation of works purchased from our community.

The building has designated space for multiple pieces of art in a variety of sizes as well as 1-2 mural installations (mural concepts will be requested in a separate artist call).

We request that the artwork submitted is:

  • Between the sizes of 16” x 20” minimum and 6’ x 8’ maximum
  • The artwork must be the artist’s original work
  • The art can be presented either framed or unframed. No preference will be given to framed pieces
  • The art does not need to be submitted ‘ready to hang’ as SRAC will coordinate professional framing
  • The artwork should be sturdy/durable enough to exist in public space without issue
  • In addition to wall art, we are seeking 1-2 large mobile sculpture(s)
  • All art submissions must be priced to buy. The panel will be using an allocated budget to purchase your art, therefore we must have a price to consider your piece
  • Any medium is acceptable (painting, charcoal, photography, mixed media, etc.)
  • Because there are multiple locations available for a variety of sizes of art, each artist can submit up to 6 pieces of artwork
  • All submitted concepts for this call will be juried by an anonymous panel made up of representatives of LSU Medical School Staff as well as Professional Artists, and Art Professionals.
  • Artist must be registered on Culturalyst Directory (https://nwla.culturalyst.com/)
  • Artist must be from Region 7 in Louisiana (Parishes to include:  Caddo, Bossier, Webster, Claiborne, Bienville, DeSoto, Red River, Sabine, Natchitoches) OR be LSU Faculty or student associated with LSU
  • Artwork imagery must be presented cleanly enough to be included in a slideshow for review without any editing needed. Clear, straightforward imagery is a must.
  • Selected Artists to be notified: Beginning the week of December 8, 2024
  • All concepts must be submitted DIGITALLY via Submittable

There are no firm requirements for themes in the artwork. The purpose of the Artwork is to enhance the building in a style with longevity that will continue to delight for years to come. If you would like a theme to work from, we are focusing on:

  • The concept “Aiming High”
  • Pieces may reference some of the many “offerings” of Shreveport or Louisiana culture
  • Art could reference education or medical sciences

Selected artwork will be installed by the Shreveport Regional Arts Council.
